23 April 2018 – The Gauteng ABC Motsepe League is just one match away from crowing the province’s 2017/18 season champions with the race tightly contested between log leaders, JDR Stars and last season’s champions Maccabi FC.
This past weekend proved that both sides were willing to fight to the end for a place in this year’s play offs set to take place in Polokwane later this year.
The log leaders played host to the unpredictable Baberwa FCat the Pilditch Stadium in Pretoria in a high scoring match that produced a total of nine goals where Maccabi were 5-4 victors, keeping their title hopes alive. On the other side of town on the very same day, reigning champions, Maccabi were in action against Dondol Stars who have really given a good account of themselves this seasons. The evenly balanced match which saw both sides approaching the match cautiously with the result eventually going the way of the league chasers by a slim 1-0 win.
The result sees Maccabi on 63 points with a goal difference of 19 while Maccabi are just two points behind them with a massive goal difference of 29. A win for JDR against Pretoria Calies this weekend will hand them the title. However, a draw accompanied by a win by Maccabi will see the championship being decided on goal difference.
This scenario paints a clear picture of what has been a very tough and exciting season of the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League.
