12 April 2018 – Two of the most respected coaches in the Sasol Women’s League – Free State, will put to test their tactical acumen this weekend in what is arguably the game of the weekend in the stream as Kovsies FC led by the tactical mastermind, Godfrey Tenoff play host to Edwin Lisene’s Bloemfontein Celtic who are the reigning champions of the province and national championships.

With only one game played this season after the league kicked off last weekend, not much can be concluded from last weekend’s matches as the season slowly gathers momentum.

Reigning Sasol champions, Celtic, made their title defense ambitions quite clear last week with a 6-1 drubbing of Napoli at home in their opening match while Kovsies had a rather torrid afternoon against a highly spirited Grassland Ladies who held them to a tough 2-2 draw.

Speaking to SAFA.net ahead of this weekend’s mouth-watering tie, both coaches kept their cards close to their chest about their approach to the match, opting to complement one another in their work as coaches.

“We playing against a determined team that is led by one of the best coaches in the provinces. Godfrey has done well for himself and having such a coach will do wonders for Kovsies. We need to be careful against them and give them the respect that they deserve. We cannot afford to underestimate them but we are clear on our objectives for the league and it is to wrap it up in the first round” said the confident Celtics coach, Lisene.

“We have signed some exciting youngsters in the team who also played this past weekend so we have a good blend of youth and experience in the team” concluded the Celtics coach.

His counterpart, Tenoff who guided USSA to glory in the 2016 SAB U21 National Championships in Polokwane as well as the finals of the same competition last season in Soweto says he has nothing but respect for Lisene and his side, saying that they are the best team in the country at the moment.

“We are honoured to have the champions playing in our province. It gives us a good yardstick to measure ourselves on. They are without a doubt the best team in the country and have a very good coach who knows football” said Tenoff.

“We have a very young squad who have dreams of playing in the national team and that in itself is motivation enough for me. We will see how it goes on the day but one thing for sure is that we will give it our all” said the Kovsies mentor who is aiming for a top four finish this season.

Having home ground advantage, it will be quite interesting to see how Kovsies contain the attack minded Celtic. The match kicks off at 13h00 on Saturday at Kovsies Stadium.
