6 April 2018 – Just five matches stand in the way of Steenberg United claiming the Western Cape leg of the ABC Motsepe League as the 2017/18 season approaches the finish line. Boasting an impressive 18 victories out of 25 matches this season, Steenberg are firm favourites to win the title should they remain consistent.

The title race will not be easy for Steenberg as ACE FC are breathing down their necks with just two points separating them at the top of the table. Even though ACE have played a game extra, a slip from Steenberg could see them pip their rivals at the end of the season.

Both sides have tricky encounters this weekend with the log leaders away to the unpredictable Glendene United while ACE are also away to Atlantic Nacional on the same day.

Steenberg edged Jomo Powers 2-0 last weekend, a result which will see the Powers plying their trade in the SAB League next season while ACE had to dig deep against a highly spirited D&G Orient with a tough 2-1 victory to keep their title hopes alive.

Meanwhile Umvoti FC could seal the KwaZulu-Natal leg this coming weekend when they host GWP Friends at the Kings Edward Park Stadium on Saturday. Umvoti are sitting comfortably at the top with 64 points following their 2-1 victory over Maritzburg City last weekend.

Their closest rival, Ashely United are behind them with 53 points and would need to win their four remaining matches with the hope that Umvoti lose all their remaining five, a situation that is very much unlikely for the red hot Umvoti.

Ashely overcame Ses Khona 2-0 last weekend at home and have it all to play for on Saturday when they travel to Chatsworth Stadium to face seventh placed Summerfield Dynamos.
