29 March 2018 – The South African Breweries (SAB) in partnership with the South African Football Association will host a Skills Camp for football Match officials between the 2nd and 6th of April at the University of Pretoria’s High Performance Centre.
The Match Officials Skills Camp follows on from a successful Skills Camp for Coaches in February this year. Thirty aspiring Match officials from across South Africa will participate in the Skills Camp.
With knowledgeable instructors such as Enoch Molefe, Didiza Ngutshana and Deidre Zealand, the SAB League Match Officials Skills Camp, aims to provide participants with invaluable skills and a profound understanding of the rules of the game. The camp entails an intense week of both mental and physical activities to equip participants with the necessary skills to perform at their optimum level.
“We are demonstrating our full commitment to the development of football in South Africa from grassroots level through the Skills Camp. Our key objective for the SAB League is to develop South African football holistically, and this necessitates opportunities like these where we upskill and empower all role-players.” Says Kalashni Narainsamy of SAB.
SAFA’s Technical Director, Neil Tovey stated, “The SAB League’s structure is very unique, in that it centres around the development of coaches, administrators, players and even match officials. As the times are changing, so are the global football standards and for us to compete at a global stage, we will have to continuously develop all role-players concerned. Our collaboration with SAB is one that we are very proud of, as it progresses football in South Africa and brings us a step closer to Vision 2022. We would also like to wish the participants well as they embark on this journey.”
With the SAB League championship race heating up across all the SAFA regions, teams are gearing up for the much-anticipated provincial play-offs where a place in the SAFA ABC Motsepe League is up for the taking.
The SAB League is South Africa’s largest grassroots football development league and spans through 52 regions, with over 1000 teams and more than 26 000 participating players weekly.
