29 March 2018 – The South African Football Association (SAFA), particularly after the 2013 elections, embarked on a programme of the empowerment of and inclusion of women in all of its structures.

In 2013 after the elections, we only had 4 Women in the governance structures of SAFA. Today, more than four years later, we have women at all levels of football.

Two of our Regional Members have women Presidents, namely SAFA Siyanda headed by Ms. Emma Hendricks and SAFA Thabo Mufutsanyana led by Ms. Elizabeth De Koker.

There are 52 Women who are Vice Presidents in our Regions and various VP in most LFAs.

More importantly in our forthcoming elections, we will have a minimum of 4 Women on the NEC Council with at least one Woman who will be the VP.

On the players side, we have seen a tremendous increase in the number of women participants, from 212 000 in 2013 to 456 000 in 2018.

There has also been a signification increase in Women coaches and all our Women National teams are coached by women

Our women teams have achieved tremendous success under the current Executive Committee

This NEC under the leadership of President Dr Danny Jordaan has some proud records in respect of women advancement in the Women football.

Just yesterday, we resolved to launch the Winnie Mandela International Challenge as recognition of her heroic struggle for a non-racial non-sexist, democratic South Africa.

We are renowned for honouring our women as well as support Women in their struggle against abuse and violence.
