26 March 2018 – Head coach of newly crowned Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe League Champions Tornado FC, Tshepo Motsoeneng attributes his team’s fairy tale run to winning the Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe League title to proper planning and thorough pre-season research on his league opponents.

In his very first season as a head coach, Motsoeneng guided Tornado to a league title having joined the club last season as the club’s assistant coach.

“Before taking over the team this season, I took some time to study each and every opposition in the league. People take such things for granted but this helps in the type of squad that you assemble for the season and I think that is how we won the league” said Motsoeneng who has a strong passion for young players.

Tornado dominated the league with an impressive record of winning all their matches with the exception of a single loss to former league champions, EC Bees in the first round of the season.  An amazing achievement that the coach attributes to a highly supportive club chairman.

“I had a meeting with the coach and we spoke about how we can motivate the players throughout the season and we agreed on performance bonuses. This I believe is what pushed our boys to stretch the lead so much that most teams felt that it was impossible to reach us” said the 39-year-old coach who hails from the Free State.

“I told my players that qualifying for the National First Division can change their lives for the better and going to the NFD could see them earning double the salary they are getting if not more but it all starts here with hard work” concluded Motsoeneng.

The Tornado mentor who is in the process of completing his SAFA/CAF C License coaching badge will soon shift focus to the upcoming ABC Motsepe National Play Offs where they will represent the Eastern Cape province and fight for a place in the NFD.
