15 March 2018 – The South African National Futsal Team has arrived in Quatre Bornes, Mauritius ahead of the Four Nations Futsal Tournament which kicks off this afternoon until Sunday, 18 March at the University of Mauritius.
South Africa will compete in an international tournament for the first time, since exiting the 2016 CAF African Futsal Cup of Nations in the first round which was held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The Four Nations tournament will see South Africa up against Comoros, Reunion Islands and hosts Mauritius, as all four nations prepare their squads for the next African Futsal Cup of Nations which CAF is yet to confirm the dates and host nation.
Wiseman Cele, who was part of the national team in 2016 believes that international exposure can only make them better and afford them an opportunity to compete with the rest of the world.
“We are happy to be active again at national level. It is not often that we get to play against other nations although our provincial leagues are active. We did not have the best showing as hosts in 2016 due to lack of experience but we are confident that with such tournaments, we can make South Africa proud“ said Cele.
