14 March 2018 – Limpopo outfit the Dolphins moved closer to winning the province’s SAFA ABC Motsepe League when they thrashed Molemole Academy 3-1 away from home this past weekend.  The Dolphins are now four points away from being crowned champions with just four games remaining this season.

The victory took Dolphins to 61 points after 26 matches. Boyne Tigers, who are second on the log, saw their title ambitions take a big knock when they drew 1-1 with Ditlou FC, taking their points tally to 52. That means Boyne now trails Dolphins by nine points, meaning Boyne now need Dolphins to lose all their remaining games, with Boyne winning all their games to win promotions.

That kind of scenario does not look likely, with Dolphins looking good to take this season’s title and go on to represent Limpopo at the national play-offs later this year.

Coach Joel Mongalo spoke of how proud he is of his team and said this will not be the first time he works with a team towards winning promotion, as he was part of the technical team of Magezi FC when they won the league two seasons ago.

“I think is repeating itself with me. I mean, I managed to win the league with Magezi when I was coaching with my younger brother Jake Ledwaba. With luck, our team will be promoted to the NFD at the end of this season,” Mongalo said.

The confident Mongalo said he has had to make changes to the team to get to where it is, as things were not great when he first arrived. Those changes saw him recruit a number of players, some from the First National Division with others coming from the ABC Motsepe League.

Such a plan is bearing fruits as The Dolphins are looking good to beat second placed Boyne Tigers to the title.

“We brought stability and a plan to this team. We added five or six experienced players. Others were in the NFD and others were doing well in the ABC Motsepe League. I believe we will do well and emerge as champions this season,” Mongalo said.
