13 March 2018 – EC Bees coach, Victor “Chippa” Njedu has cautioned South African football lovers that they may be in for a surprise as the the Eastern Cape side takes on former African champions, Mamelodi Sundowns in a crunch Nedbank Cup round of 16 clash this evening at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria.

Speaking to SAFA.net in an exclusive interview on the day of the match, Njedu revealed that his side has studied Mamelodi Sundowns and an upset may be on the cards should his game plan work.

Without revealing too much in his approach to the encounter, “Chippa” as the coach is affectionately known said they’ve been hard at work and is confident that his squad that comprises of a good blend of youth and experience can hold their own against a quality side like Sundowns.

“We are playing against one of the best teams on the continent and we will give them the respect that they deserve. This however alleviates a lot of pressure from us because all eyes are on them. We will play our normal game with a few ideas that we believe may hurt them should we execute them well” said a relaxed Njedu.

EC Bees reached the national play offs of the ABC Motsepe League last season where they fell short of qualifying for a spot in the National First Division. The Eastern Cape side currently sits third on the log with a slim but possible chance of qualifying for this season’s play offs.

The match against Sundowns kicks off at 19h30.
