12 March 2018 – Their journey in the Nedbank Cup may have come to an end, but Steenberg United still believe that they can get something out of this season.  The Cape Town outfit were beaten 2-0 by PSL side, Baroka FC on Saturday, crashing out of the Cup of Dreams.

Steenberg are now hoping to use the experienced they picked up in the South African version of the FA Cup in the SAFA ABC Motsepe League, where they are second on the log behind ACE FC in the Western Cape.  ACE are top with 53 points after beating Royal Blues 2-1 this past weekend. This now means Steenberg, who are on 46 points, are trailing ACE by seven points while they also have two games in hand.

If Steenberg were to win their next two matches starting with the first one against HBU FC, they will then trail ACE by a single point with seven matches to play until the end of the season.  That is the reason why Steenberg’s experienced goalkeeper Abdurghman White is urging his side to quickly get over the Baroka loss and focus on the league.

“We had an exciting run in the Nedbank Cup and we were disappointed to go down but Baroka showed more experience and maturity than us. We came out of that journey with vital experience that should help us in the ABC Motsepe League” said White.

“We are still in the running and if we work hard and fight even harder, we can win the next two games, putting us just a point behind ACE. That is where our focus is now. The team will have to get over the loss to Baroka and look at what is the priority now. We have a chance to take this to the wire and that is what we are prepared to do”.
