7 March 2018 – The Western Cape edition of SAFA’s exciting ABC Motsepe League is nicely poised going into the next round of fixtures. Teams across the province will be searching for valuable points with NFD places on the line.
Thursday, 8 March will see HBU FC hosting Steenberg United at the Hout Bay Stadium in what should be a fascinating top-four encounter. Both teams are still in the running for top spot with Steenberg only three points adrift of top spot with two games in hand and HBU only seven points away from the leaders.
Zizwe United then welcome The Magic to Nyanga Stadium in a top-six fixture that could have some serious repercussions on the top half of the table. Both teams have enjoyed impressive campaigns thus far and will be going all out for the three points.
Santos FC then entertain Ajax Cape Town in a marquee fixture at the Athlone Stadium. Both clubs have displayed indifferent form thus far and will be desperate to hit their straps. With a goal difference of -4, Santos will want to tighten things up at the back.
Log leaders and Khayelitsha based Ace FC then do battle at NY 49 sports grounds against Royal Blues FC with the home team looking to extend their stay at the summit.
Ace FC club spokesman Mzukisi Msutwana stated: “We are very excited about the upcoming game and will be going all out for the three points to extend our lead at the top”.
Thursday night’s final encounter sees Grassy Park United and Glendene United lock horns at the Solo Sports Fields. United occupy third place and will be absolutely desperate to climb the ladder and put pressure on the top two.
The first of three matches on Friday will see Atlantic Nacional in action at home against Ikapa Sporting at the Portuguese Club (Field A). Both teams languish at the bottom of the table and will need some consistent performances in the coming weeks to steer themselves toward safety.
D&G Orient then tackle Barcelona FC at Mannenburg Greens while Jomo Powers and United FC then round up proceedings at Saxon Sea Sport Complex in a relegation tussle with both teams in 15th and 16th place respectively.
