25 February 2018 – The South African National Beach Soccer Team (Beach Bafana) as they have been labelled, beat Zanzibar 6-0 in their first international friendly match in Bububu, Zanzibar on Sunday afternoon.

Lowell Kingsey opened the scoring in the 3rd minute of the match, while Nduduzo Phakathi scored a brace after his great performance upfront in the 5th, 7th and 29th minute respectively.

Donavan Alberts scored an outstanding goal in the 25th minute after playing a pivotal role in the team, coming on and off during the intervals. Kwanele Magwaza put the final nail on the visitor’s coffin in the 31st minute when he silenced the crowd with the sixth goal for Beach Bafana.

Goalkeeper Bongani Cele earned the man of the match award with his superb performance between the poles, after he denied the hosts any goals, with his world class saves.

“This was a great win for us, and the players kept their shape from the first whistle. I think the pace of the match was slow in the first stanza and Zanzibar only upped the pace in the second later.  I am happy with the players performance, and hope that this win will inspire us going forward and allow other nations to notice us as South African Beach Soccer; “said head coach Ntokozo Bhengu.
