23 February 2018 – There is never an easy weekend in the SAFA ABC Motsepe League and the coming one will not be any different as teams will engage in battles for maximum points. Free State will kick things off on Saturday what will be week 20 of the season, with league leaders Tshiame All Stars travelling to face Days FC.

On the same day, Tshiame’s title rivals Mangaung United who will also be on the road, playing what will be a challenging match against the improving Central University.

There will also be a tough fixture on the day, when Free State Stars and Bloemfontein Young Tigers face off in what is always a grudge match. Bloemfontein Celtic, one of the tough teams in the league will be looking to make up for lost points when they visit Sibanye Golden Stars on Sunday.

 

The battle intensifies in the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League, where second placed JDR Stars will play with their rivals Thembisa Sports Centre on Saturday. The match will see Thabang Lamola, a former JDR Stars star now playing for Thembisa, going head to head with his former team.

 

Log leaders Maccabi will also be in action against M Tigers, while Baberwa, who were seen as title contenders at the beginning of the season, taking on Leruma United.

Swallows FC will do battle in the Dube derby when they take on Dube Continental at the Nike Sports Centre in Pimville, while third placed Alexandra United will play against Dondol Stars.

 

In KwaZulu-Natal, second placed Ashley United will be away at Milford FC, desperate for the points that could see them reduce the points deficit against top placed Umvoti. However, that will also depend on how Umvoti, who are in action against Ladysmith United do. Another popular fixture for the weekend will be between Durban FC against Natal United.

 

Meanwhile in Polokwane, Mighty FC’s grudge battles with Boyne Tigers will continue this weekend, while Ndengeza, who has led the province’s standings for most of the season, will welcome Giyani Hotspur. Baroka will have a mouth-watering clash against Great North.

 

Western Cape is another league with an interesting title chase, and Steenberg United could this week climb to the top of the log should they be able to beat Zizwe United. Steenberg are second behind ACE FC, who will be facing Barcelona. One of the league’s well known teams Santos will do battle against third placed The Magic.

 

In the Eastern Cape, EC Bees’ catch up schedule will see them welcome Buffalo City, while leaders Tornado FC will be out to make light work of Matta Milan. PE Stars will be against Highbury.

 

The other two provinces, Mpumalanga and North West also have appetizing fixtures of their own, with Buya Msuthu taking on AC Milan in the North West, as well as Orbit College going head to head with Palmeros.

 

Mhluzi Black Rangers will be out to impress when they take on TS Sporting in Mpumalanga, while Phiya Young Stars will be fighting to defend their top spot with a tough clash against Secunda Stars.
