16 February 2018 – A feast of local footballing action lies ahead in the Free State edition of the ABC Motsepe League this upcoming weekend, with key battles at both ends of the table.

The first of seven fixtures on Saturday see Free State Stars hosting Central University at the Free State Academy with both teams desperate for points having lost their previous matches. Both teams are locked on 17 points and have the exact same goal difference (-2) after 16 rounds of action. A lot to play for in this vital encounter.

Dikwena United FC then entertains Kingston FC in a mid-table clash with both clubs looking to climb the table at the Phuthaditjaba Stadium. United have been red-hot in front of goal but have leaked just as many at the back and will be looking to curb that come Saturday.

A struggling Young Masters FC then travel to Westdene Stadium to tackle Bloemfontein Celtic FC hoping to get the better of the top four club and crawl out of the relegation zone. Celtic will believe that they are still within reach of a playoff spot and will do everything in their power to stop their counterparts.

Log leaders Tshiame All Stars then take on Sibanye Golden Stars at the Platberg Stadium while African Warriors play host to Days FC at Charles Mopeli. All Stars will be going all out to ensure that they maintain their lead at the summit. A draw is all they require in this particular fixture but will be gunning for all three points.

Mangaung Unite host Kovsies FC hoping to topple league leaders Tshiame and grab the lead while hoping that Sibanye can somehow do them a favour at Platberg. Kovsies head coach Godfrey Tenoff says: “Manguang is a formidable opponent and in wonderful form but we are a talented team also looking to find some form. I believe it will be a nice, flowing game on Saturday.”

In the day’s final encounter, Harmony FC welcomes BFN Young Tigers to the Zuka Baloyi Stadium. Tigers will be hoping to maintain pressure on the top two teams and make home advantage count on Saturday afternoon.

Sunday’s only encounter will see Lijabatho FC looking to take advantage of a struggling DLA2 FC at the Letshabo Stadium. The latter languish at the bottom of the log with a tally of a mere 7 points and a poor -21 goal difference. A win is simply non-negotiable!

A battle for points at both ends of the table is what makes the Free State ABC stream extremely exciting. Tune in this Saturday for all the drama.
