14 February 2018 – The National Futsal League hosted by the South African Indoor Football Association (SAIFA) continued with its fixtures this past weekend when the YMCA played host to an amazing Futsal Extravaganza with a total of 5 games played over 2 days. Maritzburg Hotspurs and Young Natalians hosted Cape Town Titans and Western Province Eagles from the Mother City while Ethekwini City (Durban) hosted OBC Chicken (Welkom).

In addition to the exciting matches, the President of SAIFA celebrated his 60th Birthday on Saturday, 10 February 2018. He was very much delighted to have celebrated his birthday with our very own Legend in Sports Administration Mr Babs Sithapersad who was present at the YMCA. A truly special and emotional moment for all of us.

Maritzburg Hotspurs (4) beat Western Province Eagles (2)

Another match that kept everyone on the edge of their seat with end to end action that kept the shot stoppers busy with excellent saves to keep the score line low. Both teams defended and attacked as a unit but failed to putthe ball in the back of the net when they had the chance. Some sloppy defending in the second half led to the home team scoring two goals that eventually was enough to secure the three points.

Young Natalians (6) beat Cape Town Titans (1)

Another encounter which saw the home team dominate play and possession throughout the duration of the match. At half time the home team led by four goals to nil. The second half was a bit competitive as the visitors changed their game plan to try and reduce the lead and get themselves back into the match but the home team was equally prepared and defended well.

Goals for Young Natalians scored by Kendall Van Wyhe, Tsepo Liphuko (2) and Quincy Ngcobo (3) while Gresham Stephens scored for the visitors.

Ethekwini City (9) beat OBC Chicken (3)

Last season’s champions were too good for their opposition and scored at regular intervals to ensure that they were in control and kept their opposition at bay. It was one of those days that saw their opposition working hard to gain possession of the ball. At half time the home team was leading by five goals to one. Even though the scoreline was in favour of the Home team, the visitors showed determination and courage and soldiered on until the final whistle was sounded.

Goals for Ethekwini City scored by Sabelo Mazibuko (2), Donavan Gordon (2), Duane Gordon (2), Veshay Naidoo, Brenlin Haynes and Demaine H0-Chong while Gift Mashaba and Ranaldo O’Reilly scored for the visitors.
