8 February 2018 – The race to being crowned champions of the Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League is fast entering into the closing stages with the title chase becoming a two-horse race between Polokwane City Rovers and Buya Msuthu.
With both teams tied on 36 points, Msuthu hold a slight edge over their rivals who have played two more games than them. Rovers dropped two vital points in the title race after a disappointing 1-1 draw at home against Mathosana United while Msuthu put up a solid performance at home with a 3-1 thumping of Platinum Stars Development to keep the pressure on Rovers.
Third placed, FC Palmeros still have a mathematical chance of finishing top and their 2-0 away win over AC Milan keeps them in contention for the title should Msuthu and Rovers drop points.
Meanwhile, Glamour Boys had to dig deep against a spirited Thaba Tshwane FC to grind a vital 2-1 victory which gave them a bit of a breather from the relegation battle. Glamour Boys are not entirely out of danger as only six points separate them from bottom of the log, AC Milan who are rooted at the pit with five points.
Phatsima All Stars’ 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Marauding Classic keeps them down in the relegation battle as the season nears it’s conclusion.
