31 January 2018 – Following their disappointing exit in the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers, Basetsana’s hard tackling midfielder, Katlego Mabuza says she has to put the disappointment behind her and focus on her education and football.

Mabuza was on the bench on Saturday, 27 January as Basetsana bowed out of the qualifiers when they went down 6-0 to their old-time foes, Nigeria at a packed Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, in Benin City.

“It is quite disappointing that we will not be going to the world cup because I believe we had a really talented squad. We fought with everything we had but I guess it was not meant to be. The focus now is on my education as well as working hard as a footballer and hopefully, when the time is right, I can go to a World Cup with Banyana Banyana” said the 19-year-old.

Mabuza is currently in her final year of studies at the University of Johannesburg, pursuing a career in the field of Sports Management.

One of Mabuza’s dreams is to play football for one of the big clubs in Europe and bring back that experience to Banyana Banyana.
