12 January 2018 – The South African U17 Men’s national team (Amajimbos), reported for their first training camp of 2018 and held their first training session on Thursday, 11 January at the University of Johannesburg Soweto campus in Johannesburg.
A total of 36 players reported for camp and will be train for what promises to be a fruitful year for the development side. The team will play a few practise matches throughout the camp and travel to Swaziland next week; where they play two international practise matches on Thursday, 18 January and Saturday, 20 January.
Amajimbos are looking to build a strong squad in preparation for the 2018 COSAFA Youth Championships, CAF U17 African Cup of Nations and the hope of qualifying for the 2019 FIFA World Cup.
Ntseki is thrilled at the prospects of building a new generation of players as the South African Football Association (SAFA) continues to tick off many of their Vision 2022 strategy.
“This group of players is exciting and this is going to be a very interesting year for us all. Over the past few years these players have watched the generation before them excel at both U-17 and U-20 level, so they too believe that something great can come from being part of the national team;”said Ntseki.
