24 December 2017 – The rain poured down heavily ahead of La-Masia FC’s final group match encounter against Thulani Chelsea FC on Friday afternoon (22 December 2017) at the Nike Football Training Centre in Pimville, Soweto.
Surprisingly, through all the showers of rain, football loving fans came out in their numbers to witness who will finish within the top two of a very exciting Group E three-horse race between Soweto All Stars, La-Masia FC and Sabelo Super Stars (Triple S). The fans braved the heavy downpour in anticipation, and waited to see if La-Masia would nudge Rhulani Mokwena’s Triple S team out in their final group match or not.
The Westbury-based outfit did exactly just that. They won their final group encounter against Chelsea 3-0, avoiding a defeat or a draw, which would have seen them failing to proceed to the knockout stages due to a better goal difference Mokwena’s team had on their side.
In their final match against African Football Selection FC, Triple S had handed their opponents a 9-0 footballing lesson with the hope that La-Masia would fail to produce the required win in order for them to go through. However, the exciting Discovery Walter Sisulu Soccer Challenge debutants denied them just that.
Against Chelsea, La-Masia were just top class on the ball.
