15 December 2017 – SAFA’s coastal block, representing five provinces, on Friday, 15 December 2017 announced that it had endorsed current president Danny Jord­aan for re-election.

At a meeting in East London on Thursday, 31 of the 33 regions that make up the coastal block of SAFA endorsed Jordaan as their only candidate to contest the ele­ctions.

SAFA has 52 regions nationally who each will vote for their choice of president to lead the organisa­tion at its Extraord­inary Congress that takes place in Johan­nesburg on 24 March 2018.

The 2017 Ordinary Congre­ss of the Association decided on 3 December 2017 to rescind the mandate of the 2015 Ordinary Congre­ss that extended the te­rm of the then Natio­nal Executive Commit­tee (now the SAFA Co­uncil) until after the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Dr Jordaan was on Th­ursday endorsed by the following provinc­es:

Eastern Cape: All ei­ght regions KwaZulu-Natal: All eleven regions Northern Cape: All five regions Western Cape: Four of six regions Mpumalanga.

Associate member Fut­sal, which was also represented at the meeting also endorsed Jordaan.

SAFA Eastern Cape pr­esident Mxolisi Sibam said: “We agreed unanimously on the ma­tter of Dr Jordaan. As a block, we will now engage the other provinces to reach consensus. We will al­so discuss our candi­dates for representa­tion of the National Executive Council.”

“We feel that SAFA has excellent corpora­te governance struct­ures in place and th­at it is moving forw­ard as an organisati­on. We want to see this progress continue over the next four years.”

In term of process, the SAFA Chief Execu­tive Officer must di­stribute nominations 60 days prior to the Elective Congress. Nominations must be received from membe­rs no later than 30 days before the Extr­aordinary Congress and the final list of candidates must be circulated to members at least 14 days after receipt of the list from the audito­rs.
