5 December 2017 – The National Futsal League hosted by the South African Indoor Football Association (SAIFA) continued with its fixtures with the only game played this past weekend at the YMCA Indoor centre in Pietermaritzburg were Young Natalians hosted Maritzburg Hotspurs in a long awaited derby.

Thus far five games have been played with all displaying high standard of Futsal but the Pietermaritzburg derby has been ranked number one so far after both teams showed what Futsal has to offer to spectators.

Both teams fielded a very strong team with the likes of Trevino Pillay, Renaldo Donnelly and Simphiwe Mgedezi featured for the home team while Curtis Dos Santos, Enva Wiltwer and Mabhudi Kenyeza for the visitors.

Played at a very fast pace, both teams attacked from the outset and created many opportunities only for both goalkeepers to keep their teams alive in the tie by displaying excellent goalkeeping skills to keep out the onslaught of strikes that were on target.

Young Natalians drew first blood when Renaldo Donnelly scored in the 5th minute to give the five hundred combined local supporters something to cheer about.

The visitors continued to apply pressure and were rewarded with a goal from Curtis Dos Santos in the 10th minute after some sloppy play from the home side. The visitors struck while the iron was hot and didn’t allow the home team to settle when Custis Dos Santos scored his brace in the 10th minute.

The second half was even more entertaining with a total of five goals being scored and many missed or saved. The visitors extended their lead when Mabhudi Kenyeza scored twice in the 24th minute to extend their lead by 3 goals. The visitors suffered a blow when their captain Orlin Powell was sent off in the 28th minute after receiving his second yellow card.

The home team took advantage of the situation and Tsepo Liphuko scored in the 30th minute. With both teams now having equal numbers on the pitch, Enva Wiltwer scored in the 33rd minute to regain their 3 goal cushion. The home team where chasing the game but only managed to score in the 40th minute when Renaldo Donnelly scored his brace. This was too late and Maritzburg Hotspurs emerged victors by five goals to 3.
