13 November 2017 – Veteran coach Johnny Ferreira may have been at ABC Motsepe League side Baberwa FC for less than three weeks since the sacking of Barnes Bapela, but the experienced coach says he is already seeing changes.

This is despite Baberwa losing their recent match 1-0 to Dondol Stars last weekend.

Speaking ahead of their match this past weekend, Ferreira said he is happy with how the players are warming up to his new methods and expects them to start winning matches soon.

“I have been here for a short period but in that time, I have managed to identify some of our problem areas. I am a coach who prefers to have my team playing to their strength and that is what I will be trying to instill with this team. Not everything will happen quickly but results will come,” Ferreira said.

“The team was playing a 4-3-3 system under Bapela, but I am playing with a 4-2-3-1 formation and the players are responding well to it. My worry is that we have many young players and not enough experienced heads in the team. That is why we start well in matches and lose it very late. But those are things I am trying to fix,” said the Baberwa coach.

Another problem area for the former FC Cape Town coach is that his team does not score goals. Baberwa have scored just once, through a penalty, in their last six league matches and Ferreira is not impressed.

“We create a lot of chances but at the end of the game we always talk a painful story. I also have no idea how we lost to Dondol in our last match because we had the game. We will need to kill off our games and the next match offers us a chance to improve,” Ferreira said.
