3 November 2017 – The much-lauded Sasol League Coaches Workshop took place at the Buffalo City Stadium on Friday, 3 November 2017.

The workshop is part of the Sasol League roadshow that is visiting the province and will include the provincial playoffs on Saturday, 4 November 2017 where the provincial winners will represent Eastern Cape at the National Championship from 5-10 December in Nelspruit.

This knowledge sharing session included key aspects of the game such as tactical and technical awareness of players, conditioning, psycho/social development, skills development and preparation for matches and tournaments were discussed in length with the local Sasol League coaches.

“We not only need to develop players, but also our local coaches. Regular interaction and education is vital in ensuring that our players from grassroots, going up, are well coached mentally, tactically and technically. This will ensure that our players can get used to changing match conditions and be better equipped to integrate into national team structures when they are called up to serve their country,” said Desiree Ellis – Interim Head Coach of Banyana Banyana.

“The growth of the women’s game does not only hinge on the development of players, but also on the coaches that work with them on a daily basis. The Coaches Workshop is a critical component of the Sasol League Roadshow and showcases our commitment to women empowerment and sports development. By having better equipped coaches, our players will improve, which in turn will lead to much stronger national team structures,” said Nozipho Mbatha – Sasol Group Brand Marketing Manager.

Notably, Sasol recently renewed their sponsorship of the country’s premier women’s football league for another four (4) years until 2021 – an initiative that has played an integral part in contributing to the growth and development of women’s football in South Africa.

The Sasol League takes place across all the nine provinces of South Africa.

Matches are played on Saturdays and Sundays and will culminate with the National Championships that take place over a period of one week.
