Johannesburg, 1 November 2017 – The Sasol League is on its way to East London this weekend, with the Jan Smuts Stadium primed to witness women’s football on display from 3-4 November 2017.
Fresh from taking Mpumalanga by storm last weekend, the Sasol League Roadshow will take place over three days starting with a media trophy tour where the Sasol Banyana Banyana interim head coach, Desiree Ellis will visit media houses in and around East London to highlight the roadshow and the activities taking place.
Held in conjunction with the South African Football Association (SAFA), the Sasol League roadshow will serve as the provincial playoffs where the top four teams in each of the two streams in the province will face off to determine the provincial champions that will represent the Eastern Cape at the 2017 Sasol League National Championship in Nelspruit from 5-10 December 2017.
The second day of the roadshow will see a Coaches Workshop led by the Sasol Banyana Banyana technical team which will consist of a skills development and information sharing workshop focused on the advancement of women’s football coaches in the province.
The third and final day will be all about football where the best Sasol League teams from Mpumalanga will go head to head with the ultimate goal of being crowned provincial champions.
“Through the Sasol League roadshow, we are able to further showcase our commitment to women empowerment and sports development by going to the grass roots levels and upskilling both coaches and players. The Eastern Cape is well known for its passion of football and we look forward to witnessing the best that the region has to offer in terms of women’s football,” said Nozipho Mbatha – Sasol Group Brand Marketing Manager.
Notably, Sasol recently renewed their sponsorship of the country’s premier women’s football league, an initiative that has played an integral part in contributing to the growth and development of women’s football in South Africa for another four (4) years until 2021.
The Sasol League takes place across all nine provinces of South Africa. Matches are played on Saturdays and Sundays in the afternoon and will culminate with the National Championships that take place over a period of one week towards the end of the year.
