31 October 2017 – Acclaimed late referee, Ian McLeod was cremated on Monday morning, 30 October 2017. This was done in the presence of his immediate family only in accordance with his religion.

McLeod, the first South African referee to officiate at a FIFA World Cup in France 1998, passed away on Thursday, 26 October after he had been hospitalised for 12 days.

He had returned from a match between Black Leopards and Tshakhuma Tsha Mandivhandila at Thohoyandou Stadium on 14 October when he complained of some flu-like symptoms.

He was rushed to hospital the following day and never recovered until his passing on.

Meanwhile, his school Crawford College in Pretoria where he was the headmaster has arranged a Memorial Service at the school tomorrow, Wednesday, 1 November 2017.

The service will start at 16h00.

SAFA President, Dr Danny Jordaan is calling upon members in and around Pretoria and the greater Gauteng area to attend the Memorial Service on Wednesday.

With the permission of the family, the football fraternity will arrange another special memorial service to honour one of South Africa’s most celebrated referees.
