23 October 2017 – The South African Football Association (SAFA) has congratulated Supersport United FC after the Pretoria side secured a place in the final of the 2017 CAF Confederations Cup with a 4-2 aggregate victory over Tunisian outfit, Club Africain.

United have set up a two-legged final against African powerhouses, TP Mazembe of DR Congo. The first leg will be played away in Lumbumbashi on 18 November before the grande finale on 25 November here in South Africa.

United have now become the second South African club to reach the final of the continental competition after Orlando Pirates lost to Etoile da Sahel in 2004.

Should Matsatsantsa go all the way and lift the title, they will emulate their crosstown rivals, Mamelodi Sundowns who won a CAF competition in the form of the CAF Champions League last season.

“To the club chairman, CEO, management and technical staff, we congratulate you for this historic achievement of reaching the final of such a prestigious continental competition. As the Association, we wish the team the best of luck and urge you to go all the way and lift the title,” said SAFA President, Dr Danny Jordaan.

“We would also like to congratulate coach Eric Tinkler, his assistant Kaitano Tembo and the entire technical team for a job well done. We take pride in seeing South African coaches doing well locally as well as on the continental stage,” added Dr Jordaan.
