18 October 2017 – The North-West Sasol Women’s League lived up to expectations once again this past weekend as top of the table clashes blew the title race wide open.

Defending champions Golden Ladies went into the weekend’s action with all to do – trailing log leaders De’Scorpion with four points, with two games in hand.

They did not disappoint as they thrashed their challengers 5-1 on Saturday afternoon to close the gap to just a single point. They will now be even more confident of retaining their title to head back to the National Championship in December.

Titans recorded a comfortable 10-1 win over Fiorentina FC at the Itsoseng Stadium to keep their title hopes alive. They lie in third place, only three points from the summit.

Mid table sides North West University and Bianca Academy produced an eight-goal thriller when they clashed at the NWU Sport Ground on Saturday. Four goals apiece provided good entertainment value for the spectators in attendance.

At the bottom end of the table, relegation bound Icons Ladies could only manage a 1-1 draw against fellow strugglers Tlhabologang Ladies, a result that does not change their position and puts them in danger of the chop.

Platinum Arsenal Ladies beat The Champs Ladies 2-0 at the Olympia Sports Stadium to move up to 11th on the log, while Boitumelo United and Gopane Ladies played to a goalless draw at the Gaopalelo Secondary School on Saturday afternoon.

Notably, Sasol recently renewed their sponsorship of the country’s premier women’s football league, an initiative that has played an integral part in contributing to the growth and development of women’s football in South Africa for another four (4) years until 2021.

The Sasol League takes place across all the nine provinces of South Africa. Matches are played on Saturdays and Sundays in the afternoon and will culminate with the National Championships that take place over a period of one week towards the end of the year.
