17 October 2017 – The Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana are back in camp to take on Burkina Faso in an international friendly match that is scheduled for Sunday, 22 October 2017 at the Dobsonville Stadium.
Kickoff is at 15h00.
The South African Senior Women’s National Team assembled for camp on Monday (16 October) – they did not waste time and held their first training session at the Nike Football Training Centre in Soweto.
“We did not do much because most of the players were playing over the weekend and we did not want to overload them. It is important that we have fresh legs on Sunday as we want to win this encounter to continue from where we left off in the COSAFA CUP,” said Banyana Banyana interim head coach Desiree Ellis.
“We are fortunate to have the bulk of the players back in camp with some new ones that missed the tournament in Zimbabwe, so this will basically be a continuation of the work we have been doing as most of them understand our playing philosophy.”
The hosts will be without midfielder Koketso Tlailane (TUT-PTA) due to exams and Jabulile Mazibuko (TUT-PTA) has taken her place.
This will be first time Banyana Banyana and Burkina Faso meet, and this will also be the first match since South Africa won the 2017 COSAFA Women’s Championship.
