16 October 2017 – After a weekend of nail-biting action of football, Tshiame All Stars emerged as a team to watch in the Free State stream of the SAFA ABC Motsepe League, climbing to the top of the log table.

Their 1-0 victory over Days FC recorded at home on Saturday made it a perfect five out of five early in the season, propelling them to the top of the table with 15 points.

No other team in the league has managed that feat at this point.

But Tshiame FC have Bloemfontein Celtic FC breathing down their neck after they also won 1-0 over Free State Stars.

Another significant victory this weekend was for struggling side Harmony FC, who moved from the bottom of the log after their 1-0 win over DLA2 FC.

In Gauteng, Alexandra United FC and Baberwa FC needed draws in their match to continue being joint top of the log.

Alexandra were held to a pulsating 1-1 draw with an improving Swallows FC, while Baberwa and African All Stars also shared spoils with the same scoreline.

Having both won four of their first six matches, Alexandra and Babwerwa are on 14 points a side.

Tembisa Sports Centre continue to languish at the bottom, even though they have managed to arrest their losing streak.

At last, Tembisa managed to post a point on the log after their 2-2 draw against Valencia. They now stand at five defeats and one draw.

KwaZulu Natal also got into the swing of things, with Umvoti, Durban FC and Drakensburg FC being joint top as the only three teams to have won in round one.

Umvoti won 2-1 against Happy Wanderers, Durban FC proved to be too strong for Ses Khona, while Drakensburg won against Milford FC.

Zone Mavo continued to exert their dominance at the top of the Mpumalanga league, beating Nkomazi Real Aces 3-1 to move to 12 points.

Mlambo Royal Club, Phiva Young Stars and TS Sporting are all on the chase, occupying the top with 11 points each.

North West, just like KZN, had their first taste of action this weekend, with Orbit College ascending to the top of the log to three points thanks to their 3-1 win over Thaba Tshwane.

Polokwane City Rovers are second with the same number of points having beaten Marauding Classic 2-0, with Buys Msuthu competing the top three after their 2-1 victory over Allys FC.

The last province in action was Western Cape, who are led by HBU FC, who took the position from The Magic, who have since dropped to second even though the teams are equal in points.

HBU FC beat Grassy Park United 2-1 to be top on 13 points, while Magic’s 1-0 victory over Santos puts them second.

Another team on 13 points, who are now third on the log is ACE FC, who drew 1-1 with Barcelona FC.

Limpopo did not play this weekend as they were busy with Nedbank Cup qualifier fixtures and their games will be played on Wednesday with the same case applying for Northern Cape, who also did not play this weekend, with their next fixtures being for 28/29 October.
