29 September 2017 – South African Football Association (SAFA) President, Dr Danny Jordaan paid a visit to the South African U20 women’s national team camp on Friday morning to wish them luck in their 2018 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifier return leg against Namibia.

Traveling to Windhoek with a comfortable 5-0 cushion after putting the Young Gladiators to the sword a fortnight ago at the Dobsonville Stadium, the SAFA President urged Basetsana to continue where they left off and finish the job in Namibia when they meet their opponents on Sunday, 1 October at the Sam Nojuma Stadium at 15h00.

“You have done well at home and proven beyond reasonable doubt that you have what it takes to get a good result and go on to qualify for the World Cup. We now urge you to go to Namibia and prove to them that you are indeed a better team that has the ability to compete in the World Cup” said Jordaan.

The SAFA President did however caution Basetsana not to be too comfortable and complacent against the wounded Gladiators who will have the backing of their home supporters.

“Football is a very unpredictable sport. You have seen a number of teams like Barcelona reversing high scores in the Champions League to move further into the next round so even though you are travelling with a good result, you need to remain focused and disciplined”

The 2018 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup will take place in France between 5 and 24 August.
