19 September 2017 – Following a disastrous campaign last season where they finished at the bottom of the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League, Swallows FC have started the current campaign on a good note.

Having acquired the status of Orange Vaal Professionals, Swallows FC look like a different side.

The team that is coached by Isaac Mpasane started the new season with an encouraging 2-0 victory over Alexandra Black Aces and they are not about to stop.

What is pleasing for Mpasane is that his side pulled off the win away from home on a pitch that did not excite him.  The Swallows coach has promised that more will still come this season as he tries to work hard to clean the mistakes of last season that saw the once proud Soweto slide slip further into the abyss.

“The pitch did not help us but the boys are gelling and we are happy with the three points. That is what we want. To be honest, we are going to fight this season. We do not want to talk much about last season, but we are going to give it our best this season,” Mpasane said.

“We doubled our efforts and did not concede. That is important. Conceding in this league is a heavy price because coming back is not easy. Things will get better when we register more of our players who are still busy with their exams,” the Swallows coach said.

Swallows will also be in action this coming weekend in the Nedbank Cup preliminary round of matches that will be played in a knock-out format. Their next league match will be on September 27 at the TUT Pretoria West Campus against Dondol Stars.

Dondol are fourth on the log thanks to their victory over M. Tigers United.
