16 September 2017 – The South African U20 women’s team is just a day away from kicking off their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Basetsana take on Namibia at the Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday, 17 September in a 15h00 kick off.

Led by the former duo of Banyana Banyana in Maud Khumalo and Simphiwe Dludlu, the young South Africans are raring to go and attempt to rewrite the history books by being the first U20 women’s side to qualify for a FIFA World Cup.

Khumalo’s charges are high on confidence from their 5-0 win over the same Swaziland team that is competing in the COSAFA Cup in Zimbabwe and will be looking to emulate that very same form in Sunday’s encounter.

The side will be having its final training session this afternoon to fine tune their preparations and work on a bit of tactical work.

“We have been working hard for the past few days and the girls are aware of what is at stake. They fully understand what it means to represent the nation and it is now a matter of them implementing what we have been working on at training” said Basetsana coach, Khumalo.

With the exciting trio of Lalona Dawet, Gabriella Salgado and skipper, Linda Mohlalo who has also represented the nation at the Rio Olympics Basetsana Namibia will have a torrid afternoon should the trio continue with the fine form they displayed in Swaziland.

The squad has a clean bill of health with the exception of Syamthanda Mbatha who suffered a groin injury during training.

Fans in and around Soweto are urged to come and support Basetsana as entry to the Dobsonville stadium will be free of charge.
