12 September 2017 – The South African women’s U20 national team is back in camp after a two-day break following their convincing 5-0 victory over the Swaziland senior national team in Swaziland on Friday, 8 September.

Basetsana will today resume preparations for their all-important FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Namibia on Sunday, 17 September set to take place at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto at 15h00.

The South Africans know that nothing short of a victory at home will be required for them to put their World Cup hopes right on track with the second leg to be played on Saturday, 30 September in Windhoek.

Basetsana are yet to make a World Cup appearance and will be hoping to rewrite this record with their first task being to overcome the Namibians in the two-legged encounter.

Boasting some exciting talent such as team captain, Linda Mohlalo who has represented the national team at all levels including travelling with Banyana Banyana to the Rio Olympics last year, the team has a good balance of experience and exciting talent.

Speaking from the team’s training camp in Benoni, Basetsana head Maud Khumalo said that the 5-0 victory over Swaziland was a good exercise for the players and they now need to put it behind them and focus on the task at hand.

“We had a really good camp last week which was topped off with a very good result against the senior national team of Swaziland. Our focus now is on Namibia and the players understand the importance of a win at home. We have some exciting talent in the squad and this week will be a matter of tying up any loose ends to ensure that we are ready for Sunday’s game” said Khumalo.
