1 September 2017 – The South African U20 Women’s National Team (Basetsana) reported for camp on Friday, 1 September to kick off their preparations for the 2018 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers against the Namibia.

Basetsana will be hoping to make it to the 9th edition of the tournament set to take place in France between 7 – 26 September next year.

But first, Bantwana will need to overcome neighbours, Namibia in the first round of qualifiers scheduled to take place on Saturday, 17 September at the Dobsonville Stadium, Soweto before traveling to Windhoek for the second leg on 30 September at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.

Basetsana Head Coach Maud Khumalo has called up a preliminary squad of 43 players selected from the recent selection camp that was held last month before trimming her squad to 24 on Sunday, 3 September.

“We started our preparations this afternoon which went quite well. We also had a tactical session to check on the players’ fitness and technical levels. We hoping to identify a strong and competitive squad to represent the nation” said Khumalo.

The trimmed squad will travel to Swaziland on Thursday for a friendly match against the neighboring country before taking on the Namibians in the two-legged encounter.

Basetsana are yet to make a World Cup appearance and will be hoping to rewrite the history books by first overcoming Namibia before booking a place in the second and third rounds of the qualifiers.
