29 August 2017 – The Provincial Play Offs of the Sanlam Kay Motsepe Schools Cup got underway in the Northern Cape this past weekend were five schools competed for a place in the National Championships set to take place in October this year.

Kakamas High School powered through to the final after winning both their group matches to finish top of group A. Their 3-1 win over Langberg High School plus a hard fought 5-3 win on penalties against Okiep High School ensured they set up a final with Reitvale High School.

Reitvale were in group B with Weslaan High School. They were the only schools in the group and therefore played each other twice to determine who advances to the finals.

Weslaan had one foot in the final following their 2-1 win in the first leg but a spirited Reitvale came out stronger in the second leg to thump them 4-1 to advance to the final.

After an intense 2-2 draw, the provincial winners had to be decided through the lottery of penalties which were eventually won by Reitvale by a narrow 6-5 victory over Kakamas.

The National Championships are scheduled to take place in October with the official date & venue soon to be confirmed.
