22 August 2017 – South African Football Association (SAFA) Referee, Victor Gomes has been invited by CAF to officiate in the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederations Cup on Saturday, 16 September at the El Obeid Stadium in Sudan.

Officiating high profile CAF matches is not new for the 34-year-old whistle blower who will lead officials from Sychelles and Uganda in this crunch Confederations Cup first leg encounter between Al Hilal and former champions TP Mazembe.

Gomes’ last CAF assignment was in June in a Champions League encounter between MS Alger and Egyptian powerhouse, Zamalek where he was accompanied by Lindikhaya Bolo, Sandile Dikilane and Victor Hlungwani.

“We can only be proud of the wonderful work done by our referee’s department. Just recently, we had one of our referees, Christopher Harris being called up to a CAF Match Officials workshop in Cairo. This is testament to the great work being done by the Association. We wish Victor the best of luck as he represents us in one of the biggest competitions on the continent” said SAFA Technical Chairperson Committee Chairperson, Ms Natasha Tsichlas.
