20 August 2017 – In celebration of Women’s Month, we continue celebrating and acknowledging the significant role played by women in football.

Ms NAMHLA MPHELO – SAFA MEDIA OFFICER

I joined SAFA in officially in 2014

I fell in love with football when I was 2 years old. I have no idea where the interest came from but I just loved the sport.

I am responsible for SAFA’s junior national teams. I am a media officer and one of the biggest tasks is promoting and publicizing the junior national teams however; my work is not limited to just that.

One of my fondest memories in football was my first football match as a club official. I was 18 years working for AmaZulu F.C in KwaZulu-Natal.

I believe being a woman gives me an advantage in my job because we have beauty, brains and tenacity to make football grow. Women have the power to influence and guide children, while allowing them to tap into their hidden strengths; which is important when dealing with young footballers.

What I enjoy/love the most about working in football is the euphoria of being in a stadium, along with travelling the world. Because of football I have managed to see places I never thought I would ever go to, while understanding that all people are the same and that football is a universal language.

Ms DAWN LUBISI – ADMINISTRATOR: REFEREES DEPARTMENT

I joined SAFA in 2015 under the Cathsetta Internship program and became full time in June 2017.

I fell in love with football before I could walk.

I am responsible for facilitating the appointment of referees for local matches, the logistics and training workshops for the referees along with liaising with the SAFA Referee Panel.

One of my fondest memories in football was being part of the Kay Motsepe Tournament in 2016. It is amazing to see these young children playing and enjoying themselves, and seeing them display talents that can change their lives.

I believe being a woman gives me an advantage in my job because I can multitask and that brings diversity in the skills I offer.

What I enjoy/love the most about working in football is it gives people the platform to give back to their communities.
