19 July 2017 – The South African Football Association (SAFA) in partnership with league sponsors, SAB launched the annual SAB U21 National Championships on Wednesday, 19 July at the SAB World of Beer in Johannesburg.
The week long tournament is set to take place at the NIKE Football Centre in Soweto where the cream of the crop of the SAB League will be represented from 24 – 30 July.
The SAB League stands proud as the largest grassroots football development league in the country that has produced a number of professional footballers including Andile Jali, Themba Zwane and most recently, Teboho Mokoena.
In attendance was Supersport United midfielder, Reneilwe Letsholonyane who was also unearthed from this league.
The SAB League’s latest innovation of the Study Assistance Programme also saw Clement Malemole attending the launch who is in the process of completing his final academic year in Sports Science at the Tshwane University of Technology.
“The SAB League has changed my life in a manner that words cannot explain. My talent was discovered through this league and I am now a few months away from being a University graduate thank to the SAB League study assistance program by SAB. I am looking forward to becoming an educated professional footballers” said Malemole
SAFA Gauteng Regional President, Mr Anthony Reeves thanked SAB for partnering with SAFA through the SAB League.
“The SAB League has over the years proven that corporate companies also play a significant role in the development of football. We have see a number of professional footballers coming out of this league, resulting in our national teams benefitting from such partnerships. We thank SAB for the great work they are doing through their sponsorship of the SAB League” said Reeves.
SAB’s Corporate Affairs Director, Ms Nirishi Trikamjee said: “The 2016/17 SAB League season stood out as one of the most exciting seasons of the SAB League since the start of SAB’s partnership with SAFA. Our commitment to innovation has seen us succesfully advance the development of football through the various initiatives such as the SAB League Skills Camp and higher education bursaries. We look forward to an exciting conclusion of the season at the National Championships” said Trikamjee.
