KwaZulu Natal put home ground advantage to good use, as they were crowned champions of the provincial school’s tournament on Thursday, 13 July 2017.

The four-day tournament, involving schools representing their respective provinces, kicked off on Monday, 10 July at the Edgewood College in KZN.

The victory did not come easy for the hosts, who had to fight off a resilient Western Cape. KZN won 2-1 in the final, which saw them walk away with the title.

This was the second time the two sides met after their 1-1 draw that was played on Wednesday, 10 July.

KZN reached the final after dominating in the group stages with three wins and a draw before brushing aside Gauteng 2-1 in the final.

Western Cape won two and drew two of their Group A matches to reach the semi-finals, where they beat Free State 2-0.

The Gauteng province was crowned champions in the girls’ division of the tournament after they thumped Western Cape by 4-1 in a one-sided affair.

Just like in the boys’ section, the finalists met in the group stages on the second day of the tournament where Gauteng handed the coastal side a 3-0 drubbing.
