3 July 2017Bafana Bafana will bounce back, this is according to defender Lorenzo Gordinho after South Africa suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Tanzania in the quarterfinals of the 2017 COSAFA Castle Cup currently underway in Rustenburg.

“It’s very disappointing because we wanted to proceed in the competition and go all the way to the final. The guys are very disappointed because we gave our all and tried to give a very good impression to the coach and also win our game, but unfortunately it was not like that, so we have to bounce back because we still have another game on Tuesday,” said Gordinho.

The Kaizer Chiefs central defender was one of the three players who were not making their debut in the national team – the others are Judas Moseamedi (Cape Town City) and Cole Alexander (Supersport United).

However, it was Gordinho’s second cap for Bafana Bafana – the first was earned last month in an international friendly match against Zambia played at the Moruleng Stadium. South Africa lost 2-1.

“It is good for us to get this experience and for the younger players to also experience some international games where there is competition because that’s where you will see growth. If we had won, it would have been a better experience for them. So we have to learn from this and move on. What remains now is that everyone has to do their best against Botswana and it is important that we do what the coach wants and I am positive we will get a win,” added Gordinho.

“There’s a saying that goes ‘tomorrow is a new day’, so I am hoping we will get another opportunity against Botswana to rectify the wrongs and get a good result. We have to keep on moving, we can’t dwell on this result, and we have just to look ahead. I am looking at finishing the camp on a high.”

Bafana Bafana will face Botswana on Tuesday, 4 July Moruleng Stadium on Tuesday, 4 July 2017.

Kickoff is at 17h00.
