Supersport United development coach and former Bafana Bafana player Ricardo Katza has spoken highly about the good work being done by the SAFA Gauteng Development League.

The former towering defender who was also captain of United in his playing career described the developmental league as a good place to launch talent and also expose players to the demanding nature of football.

Supersport United teams are doing well in the U13, U15, U17 and U19 divisions of the competition, and will on Wednesday be playing their league matches. They will travel to the School of Excellence on Wednesday June 28.

“The kids need to play. It is a good place to start and what I like the most is that even though we play National First Division teams, we play against very good academies who are well structured” Katza said.

“Our plan is to win these tournaments or leagues. We are finding the leagues competitive. It is great preparation for players who will get promoted to senior sides. The tournament also helps with different age groups. It allows for good progress,” added Katza.

United have in the past seen their development products such as Denwin Farmer go on to play for the first team in the PSL.
