Central defender Sandile Mthethwa is having the best year of his life, as his dreams continue to unfold in front of his very eyes.

Mthwetha began 2017 on a high; when he was called up to the South African U20 National team ahead of their historical participation in the 2017 AFCON; which was held in Zambia, and subsequent qualification to the 2017 FIFA U20 Men’s World Cup in South Korea.

Just under a month after the  World Cup debut, Mthethwa now finds himself in the Bafana Bafana set up and is astonished by the results of hard work, faith and determination.

“I still do not believe that this is my life. Every night before I sleep I reflect on the last six months of my life and I am speechless; when I think of how far I have come.

Last year was very difficult for me, I was not sure whether I should continue playing football or not; but when I look back to those times, I cannot help but smile at the amazing blessing which have been bestowed on me.

I am grateful for the Bafana Bafana call up and had to pitch myself this morning, to check whether I was dreaming or not. I want to represent my country at all levels and this call up has just motivated me even more.

I believe I have grown as a player since joining the national team and playing in the COSAFA Cup will just elevate me to even greater heights” said Mthethwa.

Bafana Bafana are currently in Rustenburg for the COSAFA Cup and will kick off their campaign on 2 July 2017, in the quarterfinals of the regional tournament; where they will be looking to retain their title.
