SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan has lauded businesses that promote social investment saying that companies should not only look at making super profits, they should also help develop the society in which they operate from.

Speaking at a function held by JTG Region, which is hosting an annual Solar Youth Cup in Kuruman, Dr Jordaan said the private sector should support the game of football because it is the sport that enjoys the support of the majority.

Dr Jordaan said that the solar industry was going to realise billions of Rands in coming years and it is an imperative that the Northern Cape, which had been labelled a cricket and rugby Province, start producing the future football stars of the country.

“SAFA and government cannot do everything on their own; they need the help of nation building corporates like what we are witnessing here today. By sponsoring football, these companies here are building a healthy society,” said Dr Jordaan.

“Such companies show that they have confidence in the future of this country. This is a massive initiative because by supporting football you are opening opportunities for a lot of people. Football teaches discipline and togetherness. In football you don’t win as an individual, you win as a team.”

The SAFA President asked the companies to keep up the good work and continue promoting football saying that things can only get better and better with such partnerships.
Among those attending the Solar Youth Cup tournament, which runs from 17-18 June with 59 teams from JTG Region, are SAFA Northern Cape Province Presidents David Bantu, Gladwyn White, Emma Hendriks and the host, Peter Manchonyane. Also in attendance is SAFA NEC Member Ria Ledwaba.

On Friday, former Bafana Bafana stars Fabian McCarthy, Stanton Fredericks, Arthur Zwane and u20 National coach Molefi Ntseki took part in coaching clinics which were well received by the JTG Region community.
