The South African Football Association (SAFA) concluded another successful coaching course this past weekend (Sunday, 11 June 2017) at the SAFA Technical Centre in Johannesburg.

This was the CAF A License Coaching Course where a total of 35 coaches obtained their coaching badges.

Prior to this third and final phase of the course, the first two phases were held in December 2016 and January this year.

The CAF and SAFA-endorsed coaching programme was attended by some of the country’s football legends that have contributed significantly to the standard of the country’s football such as Ashley Makhanya, Ricardo Katza, Duncan Lechesa, Calvin Motloung and Sipho Vilakazi.

Facilitating the course were qualified CAF coaching instructors, Steve Coetsee, Frans Mogashoa and CAF Assessor, Honour Janza.

“It is always encouraging to see former players who have played at the highest level enhancing their football knowledge by taking up such courses. It is highly important that former players make use of such platforms provided by SAFA to ensure that they are sufficiently equipped with the knowledge to coach and identify talent,” said Mogashoa, who is also the Head of Coaching Department at SAFA.

“We believe that the future of coaching in South Africa is looking bright as more and more aspiring coaches and former players are coming in numbers to be part of this football revolution.”

Some of the topics covered in the course include:

  • Theory and practical: Agility Coordination/Mental Training
  • Match Observation
  • Team Building/Team Leadership
  • Group Dynamics
