The Burger King-sponsored South African u20 Men’s National Team round off their tour of Europe with a clash against PEC Zwolle tonight (Tuesday, 2 May 2017) at 18h30.
This will be their third and final match of the first phase of the 2017 World Cup preparations.
Amajita lost 1-0 to VFL Bochum of Germany in the first clash held in Bochum on Saturday, 29 April.
But the Thabo Senong-led charges turned the tables in the second fixture against a select Amsterdam – the world cup-bound squad won 2-0 in a practice match played on Monday, 1 May 2017, in Amsterdam, the capital city of the Netherlands.
Stunning goals from Kobamelo Kodisang and Khanyisa Mayo gave Amajita victory, leaving Senong highly impressed with his players.
“This was another good match, against a fairly good side. They challenged us physically and were very solid in defence, which pushed us to be more creative in front of goal. Many of the players showed great hunger and that pleases the technical team,” said Senong.
“This is a very crucial week for the players as they have their last chance when we face PEC Zwolle to earn their spot in the final 21 man squad which will represent South Africa at the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup.”
The World Cup squad announcement is expected to be on Friday, 5 May.
