Sasol Women’s League action produced some fascinating results this past weekend where JVW in Gauteng surrendered their number one spot, while the dominance of UWC Ladies in the Western Cape continued.

Champions Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies got the defence of their league title off to a flying start with an emphatic win to stamp their authority as early title contenders.

JVW’s nearest challengers at the start of the round, Mamelodi Sundowns FC, produced a scintillating performance to outwit their rivals and move to the top of the log with a hard-fought 2-1 win at the Bedfordview Stadium. In other matches in Gauteng, TUT-PTA thrashed VUT 11-0, while Spring Home Sweepers continued their steady rise on the log with a convincing 5-1 win away to the University of Johannesburg.

UWC Ladies maintained their top spot on the Western Cape log standings with a 6-1 victory over RV United. Cape Town Roses are in second place following their 12-2 win over Milano Ladies United. Santos Ladies and Ikamva FC are both on six points and as a result occupy third and fourth place respectively.

The two streams in Northern Cape produced some high scores in their opening week of the provincial league. The big winners of the weekend were Richmond United Ladies in Stream B who defeated Phillipstown Ladies 18-1 to move to the top of the table.

Meanwhile in Stream A, Tlhaping Flowers FC got off to a flyer as they recorded a convincing 7-1 win away at Uprisers Ladies.

In the Free State province, all eyes were on 2016 National Champions Bloemfontein Celtic FC as they travelled to Thaba Nchu to take on Kolisang Ladies. The Siwelele ladies did not disappoint as they announced their league ambitions with a 6-1 win. Still in the City of Roses, MO2KFA FC got a football lesson from Kovsies who defeated them 10-0.

Bianca Academy sit in position number one in the North West, while in Limpopo Moria Sweepers maintained their top spot following a 7-2 dominant display over Seven Stars, and lastly in KwaZulu-Natal Umlazi Arsenal gunned down Nxamalala Ladies 3-0 to occupy top spot in the opening round. A surprise result in that region saw Durban Ladies suffer a 2-1 loss at home to Lindelani Ladies at the Mangosuthu Stadium.

The two provinces that were not in action this past weekend were Mpumalanga and the Eastern Cape.
