Uthongathi FC have emerged as winners of the KwaZulu-Natal ABC Motsepe League while the battle for survival continues at the bottom of the table.

Uthongathi have been dominant in this region as they sit top of the table with 69 points from 29 matches – 10 points ahead of second-placed Umvoti.

The KZN champions put the title chase beyond reach when they secured a 1-0 win over Ashley United at the Ashley Stadium on Wednesday, 20 April 2017.

Umvoti look destined to finish in second spot after they recorded a 1-0 victory against Maritzburg City at the Wadley Stadium – a result which moved them four points clear of third-placed Milford who suffered a 3-1 loss to Amajuba United.

In the relegation battle, KwaMashu All Stars boosted their hopes of survival with a 5-3 win over bottom placed Dundee Rangers.

Both KwaMashu and Dundee have 19 points, although the former has played two games more.

Elsewhere in the league, Durban FC thrashed Matimatolo 4-1 at the King Zwelithini Stadium, while Drakensburg defeated Uthukela FC 1-0 and KwaDukuza United claimed a 3-2 win over Happy Wanderers.
