Gauteng Sasol Women’s League defending champions, JVW have sent a strong warning that they will be the team to beat this season when they trounced H. Zebra Force 12-0 in Round Two of the championship that kicked off last week.

The defending champions have now scored a whopping 19 goals without conceding following their 7-0 victory in the opening round against VUT last week.

The two wins have catapulted the champions to the summit of the log in the early stages of the season. However, hot on their heels is University side, TUT-PTA FC who also registered their second victory and are second behind JVW on goal difference.

The Tshwane-based side easily brushed aside Soweto Fabulous FC 7-0 at the TUT West Campus grounds on Saturday. The very same score line was registered in the Vaal when VUT redeemed themselves following their loss to JVW last week.

Action from Tembisa saw a tightly contested match eventually ending in favour of Palace Super Falcons as they edged the University of Pretoria by 1-0 at the Ivory Park Stadium to also register their second victory of the season.

At Alexandra Stadium, home side Blue Birds drew 1-1 with Tshwane giants, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies who came back from behind to salvage a point in a tightly contested match.

With the Gauteng season in full swing, Western Cape are the second province to kick off the women’s league with the rest of the provinces set to get underway next weekend.

UWC Ladies exceeded all expectations in their first assignment away from home as they put 16 past Southern Stars who only found the back of the net once for a humiliating 16-1 defeat. Spurs Ladies were also good travellers over the weekend after visiting Defence FC as they eased to victory with a 14 –1 victory over the home side.

Elsewhere in the Nyanga township, Ikamva FC played host to Virgo and rattled the back of the net seven times to register their first win of the season with a comfortable 7-0 win while Manenberg Ladies had to fight hard against a resilient Maties FC to claim a hard fought 1-0 victory.

Dangerous Heroes travelled down to Rooikrans for a nail-biting clash with Milano Ladies United. As expected the match produced fireworks with both sides attacking from the opening whistle as the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
