The Magic FC’s fine run continued in the Western Cape’s SAFA ABC Motsepe League, but title contenders Zizwe United and Steenberg United both dropped points over the weekend.

“If they slip, we’ll catch them!” These were the post match comments of Mike Lukhubeni, the head coach of title contenders Steenberg United, speaking to SAFA Western Cape from the Portuguese Club during on Human Rights Day.
It was however not to be, as Lukhubeni’s charges failed to live up to their promise, after league leaders Zizwe United were held to a 1-1 draw by relegation-threatened Cultural Roots on Friday evening.
Steenberg knew they had to get maximum points when their match against Barcelona kicked off Saturday afternoon, but it was not to be as they too were held to 1-1.
The Magic however, stretched their unbeaten run to 10 matches, thanks to a 2-1 victory over Glendene United. Their run includes nine wins and one draw, which is good enough for fourth place for now.

With several Cape Town clubs facing trouble in the Nation First Division, as many as four teams could face the drop in the Western Cape.

Milano United’s point from their 1-1 draw at Ajax Cape Town was not enough to lift them out of the bottom four. Crystal Palace on the other beat Grassy Park United 2-1 to improve their chances of safety.

Meanwhile, United FC pulled away from the trouble with an emphatic 5-2 victory over FC Cape Town, Jomo Powers collected maximum points, courtesy of a 2-1 win over troubled Devonshire Rovers, while Ikapa Sporting and Atlantic Nacional played out a 0-0 draw.
