Title contenders Steenberg United and Zizwe United both won, while Atlantic Nacional got their revenge against Devonshire Rovers at the Western Cape’s SAFA ABC Motsepe League Football Festival on Human Rights Day.
The Portuguese Club in Milnerton, Cape Town played host to a jam-packed day of football, where seven league matches were played on the two fields from 10h00 until 18h00.
Hosts Atlantic Nacional made Devonshire Rovers pay for beating them in the first round, and claimed a convincing 3-0 victory over Rovers.
Log leaders Zizwe United beat FC Cape Town 1-0 to stay top, with three points still separating them from Steenberg United, who overcame United FC with a commanding 4-0 scoreline.
In the day’s other block fixtures, Grassy Park United beat Ikapa Sporting 1-0, while The Magic fought back to draw 1-1 against Ajax Cape Town to remain unbeaten in nine matches.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace and Milano United could not be separated in the battle for survival with their match finishing 1-1.
That result benefited Cultural Roots, who took full advantage and powered past Jomo Powers with a 4-1 victory, to move up to 13th place.
Barcelona and Glendene United were the exception, as their fixture was played at the Rustdene Stadium. Barcelona won the encounter 2-0, which has dented Glendene’s slim hopes for title contention.
